Stones have been around since the beginning of time, so they have stories to tell us. Don't we all feel refreshed after a day on the beach - hot stones and cool water. Stones have been used in ceremonies and treatments by various cultures throughout the world. In America, the Sioux tribe used stones to mark a boys transition through manhood by lying on rocks, with stones placed between his toes. In Russia people line the bottom of their bath with hot stones and lie on them. The Chinese were using heated stones during the Shang Dynasty to relieve sore muscles. Japanese monks use stones to keep their stomachs warm after a meal. Closer to home we surely remember our grandmothers using stone irons (or am I showing my age).
